Diablo 4 does not want to be inaccessible. For the ladder race, make it so that if you “activate” the battle pass with an Eternal character you are disqualified, so you’re not getting the boons for seasonal characters early or whatever.Īdditionally, the claim that “all ARPGs do this” is mainly referencing…Path of Exile, the other main ARPG in the space, which yes, is a good game, but is pretty damn inaccessible and easy to bounce off of. Yes, it has boosts for seasonal characters, but there are loads of cosmetics in there as well. It strikes me as nonsensical that XP you earn on Eternal characters cannot even progress a paid battle pass. That’s not even true, as with these bolstered seasons there is now actual story content each time, and the battle pass is an entirely new concept for the game. This makes it easier to get into meta runs and generally have more people to play with.įor new players, I always recommend starting with seasons.I would push back against the idea that because this is “always how things have been” that it’s a reason to continue exactly as things were. You will also find that seasons are much more populated than non-seasons and you start on a level playing field with everyone else. You also get immediate access to adventure mode, the endgame of Diablo 3. You earn portrait frames, cosmetics, and most importantly an easy way to get a guaranteed set for the class you chose (only one set per season). Paragon XP (not levels) are added to your non-season paragon.Īs a new character it is a great thing to do because you would already be starting out fresh plus you get some nice rewards. You keep everything you earned in season it is simply transferred over. At the end of the season your hero is transferred to non-season and all items in your stash are sent to you via mail. A seasonal hero is a character that starts out as if you just bought the game.
